Formosa Modeling Project

Stone Lions Environmental Corporation conducted a study of the atmospheric emissions of ethylene dichloride (EDC) and vinyl chloride (VC) from sources located at Formosa Plastics Corporation in Point Comfort, Texas. To assess the impact of these emissions on the town of Point Comfort, air dispersion modeling was performed. The model calculated pollutant concentrations at various specified locations in and around the town of Point Comfort. These data were converted into isopleth lines of equal concentration and plotted on a basemap of the region.

This work was not done on behalf of nor authorized by Formosa Plastics Corporation. All results depicted here should be considered preliminary.

Shown below are the 1990 annual average concentrations of vinyl chloride in micrograms per cubic meter. These concentrations were a result of approximately 360 tons of vinyl chloride that were emitted into the atmosphere by Formosa that year.
